An icon of Sudanese sound, singer/songwriter and story teller Ajak Kwai’s music is described as inspiring and soulful, infused with funky afro-beats, representing the depth and richness of her roots.
Music is the vehicle for her extraordinary stories of experiences as a refugee exiled from her home and family. Singing in Arabic, Sudanese and English, Ajak accompanied by her live band, conjures a vivid picture of her Dinka heritage.
2014 saw Ajak awarded the African-Australian Community Female Singer of the Year and performing her one-woman theatrical work Of Cows, Women and War at La Mama Theatre (Melbourne) and the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Performing at festivals and events around the country, Ajak’s distinctive voice continues to mesmerise audiences national and internationally. Her moving tales of exile, hope, freedom, love and cows – beloved animals of the Dinka – reflect her optimism and unwavering belief in the best of human nature.
