Tank 3
Tank 3 has been an inspiration for installation artists for three decades now. For a fortnight in November, Japanese artist, Riru Mizuguchi will be literally nesting there.
Riru Mizuguchi is an art student at Tokyo University of the Arts, creating artworks themed around the relationship between the act of nesting by living creatures and the act of human creation.
Her research during this residency will focus on the nesting behaviour of Bowerbirds and other creatures that inhabit Cairns. Part of this work as to make a model of the structure of the nests she finds, make drawings, and re-enact the behaviour of nest building.
Riru will be working with members of the Saltwater Basketry Group and other interested visitors to build their own nests together. The purpose is to familiarise the visitors with the unique ecology of Australian species from the viewpoint that they are also creators.
