Residency and Exhibition
‘Mokuhanga’ or woodblock printing is Yvonne Hering’s driving inspiration. She teaches it in Cairns, and visits studios in Japan and to learn more about the medium.
Yvonne attended the International Mokuhanga Conference in Echizen, Japan earlier this year, supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund. Checking out the village beforehand she met the guest house owner, Kizu san, who introduced her to the Director of Papermills. Yvonne was offered an exhibition at Udatsu Museum. The resulting Village to Village exhibition was a connection between Edmonton & Echizen.
Also this year, Yvonne was accepted into the MI-LAB Advanced International Mokuhanga Artist in Residence Program in Echizen, sharing five glorious weeks with other artists, exploring a more abstract interpretation of the connection between our two cultures, the similarities and differences, what binds us and what makes us unique.
Yvonne’s workshops during her residency will introduce you to the art form, offer experimentation, and a full course in woodblock printing.
