Dive into the art of visual storytelling with a focus on green screen filmmaking!

This workshop teaches kids how to design and plan stories for film using storyboards and green screen techniques. From shaping a clear narrative to planning shots and visual effects, participants will gain a hands-on understanding of how ideas move from concept to screen.

They’ll learn how to break down a story into scenes, choose camera shots to support the action, and design backgrounds and effects that work with green screen, building the foundations for simple animation and filmmaking projects.

Key Learning Modules:

  • How Stories Work on Screen: An introduction to visual storytelling and the Three Act Structure, focusing on how stories are shaped for film and animation.
  • Storytelling Basics: Learn how to develop characters, settings, and plot, using guided activities to generate and refine story ideas.
  • Cinematography & Shot Choices: Explore different camera shots and angles, and how they influence mood, pacing, and storytelling.
  • Storyboarding for Film: Learn how to translate a script into storyboard panels that map out each scene and shot.
  • Green Screen Planning: Understand how green screen works, and how to plan characters, props, and backgrounds so scenes can be combined digitally.
  • From Storyboard to Shoot Plan: Turn storyboards into practical plans for filming and stop-motion animation, including shot lists and scene order.

By the end of this workshop, kids will have created their own storyboards and green screen shoot plans, setting them up to bring their stories to life through animation and filmmaking.
