Tristan Harris hunts for cars to photograph. His hunting grounds are the streets of Cairns, the gritty, industrial areas, the shopping centre car parks, car sales yards, mechanics, and smash repairers. This is where he finds his subjects.
Tristan’s photography is inspired by the aesthetics of grunge, nu metal and hip-hop music videos of the late nineties and early noughties. There is a colour tone and a musical tone that is dark and metallic.
With a brilliant eye for composition and a handful of phone aps, Tristan achieves a style of photography that he admits is retro and nostalgic.
“The cars and aesthetics have to be pre-2012… My photography needs to be period correct.”
Tristan’s on-going project of hunting down and photographing cars is documented in his Instagram account, with a growing following of what one can only guess are a mix of car and photography enthusiasts.
